This interactive workshop will explore how health economic analysis can be incorporated into the process of clinical guideline development. The approach that the UK’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has to cost utility analysis will be explained and how that informs the formulation of individual recommendations. Participants will be invited to work through some examples in small groups and will come away with a basic understanding of the following concepts and procedures: Cost utility, cost impact, cost benefit, quality adjusted life year (QALY), incremental cost effectiveness ratio (ICER), modelling through decision analysis and Markov models, and sensitivity analysis. |
